Performance and Signal Quality Analysis of Electrocardiogram Textile Electrodes for Smart Apparel Applications

Electronic textile (e-textile) systems applied to biological signal monitoring are of great interest the healthcare industry, given potential provide continuous and long-term healthy individuals patients. Most developments in e-textiles have focused on novel materials without systematic considerations into how hierarchical structure fibrous assemblies may influence performance compatibility during use. This study examines mechanisms underlying stability quality textile-based electrocardiogram (ECG) electrodes used a smart bra. Signal biometric data obtained affects feedback user experience be influenced by characteristics properties material. Under stationary dynamic conditions, analysis raw ECG heart rate, with respect textile-electrode material been performed. Currently, there is no standardized procedure compare between electrode materials. In this study, several methods differences silver-based silver/silver-chloride gel electrodes. The comparison serve complement visual observations acquired, as possible quantitative means differentiate their performance. From results obtained, quality, rate (HR) detection were found improve increased skin contact, structures lower stretch surface resistance, especially under dynamic/movement test conditions. It was that compared exceeded thresholds previously established for acceptable specifically kurtosis ( K > 5), Pearson correlation coefficients r ≥ 0.66) taken from average waveforms calculated.
